On December 2, 1993, a meeting was held at the home of Doctor and Mrs. Vaughn Hansen in Salt Lake City. At that meeting, the former Mayor, DeLore Thurgood was asked to head up the Foundation along with six other people to serve as the Board of Trustees. Mr. Delore Thurgood called the citizens of Syracuse together to devise a plan to preserve the history of Syracuse. Out of the plan came the establishment of the Syracuse Historical Commission.
We applaud all of the people of Syracuse for their interest and support. We are proud of our heritage and feel confident that this project will enhance our efforts to link the present with the past. We all need to know the roots of our pioneer forefathers, and the great contributions they have made in our behalf.
