Planning and Zoning

The Community Development Department oversees and coordinates land use, zoning, planning, code compliance, and building construction within Syracuse City.  The Department comprises the Planning and Zoning, Building Inspection, GIS (Geographical Information Systems), Engineering, Business Licensing, and Code Compliance divisions.  Working to make a community safe and peaceful sums up our mission.  We assist citizens with where, how, and what they can develop so it is in harmony with the General Plan and Land Use ordinances.

The Department also inspects all public improvements, including roads, water, sewer, curb, gutter, and sidewalk.  Inspectors enforce City ordinances, such as the abatement of weeds, unlicensed vehicles, and other nuisances as well.

Lastly, we assist businesses and citizens through permits, licenses, and other development plan approvals.  We are committed to customer service and assisting the positive development of this community.

The City of Syracuse GIS Division produces a variety of maps necessary to administrate City services. Typically, the GIS Analyst produces maps using geographic information system (GIS) software. To ensure accuracy, the City will periodically update maps and coordinate data with the Davis County Recorder's Office.  You can view and print these maps by clicking on one of the links below.

Please visit the Building Division’s website page for information on Code Enforcement and the form to use in submitting your concerns regarding possible code violations.
