The Syracuse City Arts Council is dedicated to making Syracuse an art community. It is the Arts Council's goal to provide learning experiences as well as opportunities to express and display our creative talents by sharing them with each other through not only the fine arts but the performing arts of music and theater as well. 2012 Summer Musical
"Into the Woods"
After considering many issues, including numerous productions of Fiddler on the Roof occuring in our area this summer, the Syracuse City Arts Council decided to change our summer musical for 2012 to the beloved fractured fairytale, Into the Woods! To provide participation opportunities for children and younger people, we are excited to include a children's fairytale production to be presented in conjunction with each performance of Into the Woods.
In light of these changes, we are extending the deadline for submitting letters of interest from those volunteering to participate on the production staffs for these two shows. Please note that the list of staff positions expanded to include the children's production. Please send a letter or email, expressing your desire to volunteer and position(s) you would like to fill, to darren@syracuseutaharts.org no later than Friday, February 17, 2012, by 10 p.m. Feel free to include a summary of relevant experience or attach a resume.
Auditions will be April 28, 2012, at the Syracuse City Community Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, including timely updates, visit www.syracuseutaharts.gov and follow us on Twitter.
Syracuse Symphony Orchestra
The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra will be a community-based, all-volunteer group. We are looking for musicians to play in the orchestra. Any player who can demonstrate a proficiency on their instrument is welcome to join. There will be no auditions required, with a few exceptions (read more), so we welcome new members at any time. If you can't make the first rehearsal, on February 28, 2012, you are still welcome. Keep checking our Facebook page and Blog for further information. We will also be taking letters of interest for the committee leadership positions, including Director, Associate Director, President, Vice Chair, Concertmaster, and Secretary. For more information, visit our Orchestra page.
If you would like to join or just have questions, please email brandon@syracuseutaharts.org.
New Acting & Improv Group
The Syracuse City Arts council is excited to announce the formation of an adult theatre acting and improv group, for ages 16 and up. This group will meet together and discuss and learn different areas of stage production, including performance, movement and various improv techniques. This will be a safe, non-judgmental environment. The group will also have opportunities to perform at events such as heritage days, the pumpkin walk, etc. The group will meet bimonthly on Friday evenings beginning Friday, February 24, 2012, at 8 p.m. in the Community Center. Join us! If you have questions or concerns, email darren@syracuseutaharts.org.
